What is soap?
Soap is a mixture of oils, waxes, butters, and/or fats and lye. The lye is mixed with the oils which start a process called saponification. This is the process in which the lye converts the oils into soap.

History
Soap has been around, in one form or another, since ancient Babylon. During this time, what they considered soap was used to clean cloth. Over time, people began to realize that soap could be used to cleanse skin as well. Soap eventually evolved with the use of different oils, waxes, butters, and fats. During the industrial revolution soap was being mass produced. During this time cheaper ingredients, detergents, and synthetic chemicals were added. |
